BORN AT THE CROSSROADS OF WORLDS
Welcoming a baby into a new world, far from home, is a challenge for any migrant parent.
Confrontation with different mothering techniques and questions about bringing up a baby born in a foreign land at a time of initiation in life when the needs of the cultural group are paramount are all factors that can make this period vulnerable.
Associated with migration, multiple levels of vulnerability – such as war, precariousness, isolation, a young age or a history of violence – can sometimes combine and/or reactivate during the perinatal period. We now know that actions taken as early in life as possible are decisive for the development and construction of young children. It’s time to face up to the transcultural challenges of today’s multicultural world.
This conference will bring together professionals from various fields of perinatal care to reflect together, from a transcultural and transdisciplinary perspective, on how to welcome, carry and support babies (and their parents) at the crossroads of worlds and vulnerabilities
Location : International Conference Centre of Sorbonne University (CICSU), 4 place Jussieu 75005 Paris.
